About KIIK

The National Image Union Catalogue (KIIK) is a single point of search and lawful licensing for the nation's heritage image treasures — photographs, maps, manuscripts, documents and historical emblems — gathered from archives, museums and libraries across Malaysia into one union catalogue.

Two problems, one solution

How it works

Contributing institutions retain ownership of their own collections. Records are harvested (OAI-PMH) or submitted via API/upload, then matched and consolidated. Images are displayed as watermarked previews; the full-resolution master file is released only after a licence is purchased. Licensing revenue is distributed to institutions under a revenue-sharing agreement.

A heritage + commercial model

KIIK combines the discipline of a heritage archive (preservation, standards-based metadata, rights control) with the capabilities of an image bank (licence calculator, cart, payment, e-invoicing). See Standards & Metadata for the technical details.

Demo note. This is a concept prototype. Images are drawn from public domain collections (Wikimedia Commons) and assigned to illustrative institutions only — not official holdings or endorsements. Licensing, payment and e-invoicing are simulated.
